    irony on batteries

    Posted on 07 March 2005

    @dorm here’s some irony:

    with many battery operated products (e.g. ipod, laptop, cell phone, etc.), we seem to have this subconscious thing that reminds us to be conservative with the amount of usage — in order to conserve battery life…BUT at the same time, if you leave such a product idle and unused for a prolonged period of time, the battery actually depreciates quite significantly (depending on the product of course) –case in point–laptops…and if you own an ipod and use it sporadically, chances are you’ve witnessed the infamous apple logo appear instead of the normal ‘menu’ interface after not using the device for a period of time (check battery status = low!)

    so how the heck do you maximize the performance of the battery?
    a. use it a lot and re-charge (lessens long-term battery life)
    b. don’t use it that frequently (wasted your money on a product you don’t even use?)
    c. live your life and forget about petty matters like battery life (BINGO)

    tangent thoughts from a EE study session gone awry :), 35#Q$Tui* too much thinking
    good night world
