The Future of Google

Chris Taylor from CNNMoney.com predicts Google’s future:
Scenario 1 (Circa 2025): Google Is The Media
“Google TV, Google Mobile and the rise of e-paper create the perfect storm.”
Scenario 2 (Circa 2015): Google is the Internet
“Free wi-fi, a faster version of the Web, the Gbrowser, and the cube transform the technology landscape and our language.”
Scenario 3 (Circa 2020): Google is Dead
“The once-mighty search engine falls prey to privacy intrusion, optimizers and Microsoft.”
Scenario 4 (Circa 2105): Google is God
“Human consciousness gets stored, upgraded and networked.”
There are rumors that Google will soon be selling their patented “Google Cube” PCs for $100 each to the public — the ones they use in their computer-server-farms.
The future of computing (according to Bill Gates or Google, I forget which) will be these extremely affordable personal computers which will only be equipped with one thing: a web browser. All tasks will then be done online:
- Word processing - Typed through a browser like IE, then saved on the internet (on a server)
- Entertainment - All music, videos, etc. will be stored on servers (you will have your own server — like the hard drive you use now, you just won’t be able to see it anymore)
Get the idea? Think about YouTube.com. All videos are basically stored on remote servers through the internet. Parallel that: Essentially all software (and everything else you’ll need for your computer) will be online in the future.
So no more need for a big hard drive, large RAM, high-speed processor. Think cheap. The end of the digital divide.
Neat huh?
