so an update to keep track of my taiwan life:

on friday night, i had dinner at an indian restaurant near shi-da university with two of my cousin’s friends, carissa and fion.  the food was not bad, too bad they didn’t have roti prata flapss. then we went to watch a band perform at a pub nearby… been to a couple pubs so far in taipei, they all sport a pretty good, pub-like environment… the band at this pub covered a lot of beegees and some carole king and norah jones songs, they were pretty good.  the highlight of the band was the percussionist - oscar (bongos, tambourine, triangle, you name it he plays it).  this guy was about 50+ years old at least, best way to describe him would be to say that he looked like a monk.. shaved head and glasses.. older than all of the other band members.  but man was he groovin!! he was prob the most energetic and was singing along to almost all the songs even though he wasn’t singing harmony or anything.  the guy was awesome, i hope i’ll be as spirited as him when i’m his age.. i talked to him during the breaks, got his contact info in case i’ll ever need a percussionist on tour later on, he’s a cool guy.. burmese from hong kong.  we ordered some henessey with coke and some fries, etc.. and since we had left over alcohol, i carried it home (in the bottle) since neither carissa nor fion wanted it.. which felt kinda weird on the subway ride back.  drunkard..

tonight, i had dinner with regine and wendy also near shi-da hah, i really like that area.. i guess 1) because there are fond memories of the int’l camp years back, and 2) there are a lot of good restaurants, pubs, and nightlife around there…very collegetown-ish. we ate at some dumpling place, it was alright.. not bad, then went to this chocolate fondue place that regine suggested. the environment was great, i really liked what they did with the place.. should’ve taken photos BUT there was this black spider with white “fangs” climbing up and down the wall right next to us.  ha it was pretty good, but not as good as back home.  but CHEAP as almost all taiwan food is heh

class has been pretty good so far, my writing proficiency is definitely improving.. re-learning a lot of the words that i forgot from a long time ago.. but the reviewing picks up fast (like trying to pick up calculus after not using it for a year or two).  i’m trying to apply as much that i’ve learned to my daily convos as i can.. so that i can really force myself to remember the more difficult vocabulary..,, and to speak more eloquently.

made a friend or two from class, so that has been cool too.  just gotta flow with it, stay productive, and keep the head up.
