Drums Gone Wild, Making $ with Viral Hits
I am drained from countless hours of studying for finals, so this will be a happy post to offset the pressure. A fun, hyperactively edited video titled “Amateur” by and starring Lasse Gjertsen (Thanks Gary for sharing):
This video got 1.5 million hits! Which brings an idea… The creators of viral hits on the internet should start charging for advertising on their work. A potential plan:
1. Make the potentially viral video
2. Propose video to hungry advertisers
3. The deal (e.g. 1 cent for each hit, advertiser’s name mentioned in video)
4. Launch on YouTube
(1 cent /hit) x (1.5 million hits) = $15,000!!!!
I really think this could work. There’s nothing to lose for either party.
Are there people doing this already?

I thought some servers would pay people a fraction of a cent for a hit on their web site. I seem to remember people getting check for 20 dollars every now and then, is this related or am I completely off base.

Yep, Eric, that kind of service exists. But I’m talking straight from the source, cutting the middle man.
i.e.
Joe makes the video
Joe pitches it to investors
Joe profits based on click stats
