    Optimizing the Blog

    Posted on 05 February 2007
I recently activated a feature in Feedburner which allows me to check in-depth info on how readers are getting to my site through searches, links, etc. I noticed that the queries are really scattered, all over the place - from "Lebon James music" to "Future Apple laptops". So I decided to do two things to optimize the site a bit further and to retain new readers:
    1. I went back and revised some of the more older entries that are being hit i.e. generating some more links and related entries on those posts. Here are a few of those queries from search engines that led to hits on my blog: screenshot.jpg
    2. I created a tag cloud (top right of the site). What exactly is this? It's a quick way for a new reader to know immediately what topics I write about. The coolest part of the tag cloud is that the topics I write more about have larger fonts in the cloud. Those with fewer posts have smaller fonts. You'll notice Apple, Google, and Tech all have pretty larger fonts, meaning I blog a lot about these items. The concept was first executed by Flickr and now used in many blogs and services like del.icio.us.
