Facebook and Television, Together at Last
Another confirmation that video is the future of the Internet.
Facebook is moving into television.

Yep. Come March, Facebook is going to be taking the YouTube route. They will be working with Comcast and allowing users to upload original content to Comcast’s Ziddio site. The top picks will be featured in 10 half-hour episodes online and on Comcast On-Demand. The series will be called ‘Facebook Diaries’.
Two thoughts:
- If you ask me, this is basically Comcast trying to get in on Web 2.0. Aging Comcast’s chance to be cool and youthful again. Surely they paid Facebook oodles of money to get in on this. Also, Mashable writes that Ziddio hasn’t gotten much attention since their launch. This is the chance for Ziddio to get out of dud mode.
- 10 shows x 30 minutes = 300 minutes = 5 hours of content. That’s a lot of filmage. Will there be enough GOOD content to keep viewers interested for 10 shows?
Facebook is on the run. Noah posted an entry on Facebook’s new gifts program that started a few days ago. My guess is that if this TV program is popular and yields success, then Facebook will do a similar music program.
Do you think this was a good idea by Facebook?
