Top 4 ‘Missed Call’ Rules, Cell Phone Etiquette for Dummies
Cell phone etiquette. I’ve been in situations where I don’t get a simple call back from a friend. I’ve been in numerous situations where I’ve been a jackass and forget to call people back. Last week, I wrote a post about how following up is uber important.

So I decided to come up with a set of rules for when you should follow up on missed calls. Following these rules will make you a better person :) I will abide by these commandments starting now:
1. A missed call from someone you know personally.
This can go either way. Either call back or don’t call back.
If more than one missed call, call back required.
2. A missed call from a number you don’t recognize.
Not required to call back.
3. A missed call AND voicemail from someone you know personally.
Call back required. ASAP.
4. A missed call or text wishing you happy birthday.
Call back required. ASAP!
Updated courtesy of DanMac:
5. A missed call from a friend who you know wants to borrow money.
What would you do? ;)
Follow these rules and you will become super awesome among your peers. :)

I used to hate voicemail and loathed listening to them. I then discovered a service from a company called spinvox. They convert voicemail into text. I recieve the voicemail as a text message and an email. I can go through them whenever I want to. They also let you blog from your phone just by speaking. Heres their site www.spinvox.com

Hey John, yea I’ve read quite a bit about SpinVox. It look like a really good alternative to the current vmail system. How’s the accuracy on those text converted messages?
I look forward to the iPhone voicemail system. ;)
DanMac, brilliant point. Check entry.

I’m weird, sometimes I save up a bunch of voicemails, especially if they’re funny, and put them on mix tapes.

Weird, when I get a missed call or a voicemail I start freaking out! If I miss a call I always assume they are calling because of something horrible, either they got in a car accident and are dying as they call me or they are trapped in a burning house. If they leave a voicemail it’s even worse. I always have to call them back asap. I would say it’s quite a flaw in my character. I like text very much more.
Hey Tony, have you had a chance to check out Appleseed Cast yet? Clap Your Hands Say Yeah? Lately I’ve been really into Morrissey and the Smiths.

Friend who wants to borrow money: no call-back required. If s/he calls a second time, call back and at least pretend to listen. O_O

Interesting, I recently was looking at when to answer/not answer the phone….http://joshmaher.wordpress.com/2007/01/22/cell-phone-use-norms/
It only makes sense that there are more rules about actually returning those calls….

New rule…when member from senior design team calls…at that moment
you must yell out “truck”. No matter where you are. If rule is not
whenever somebody asks what your senior project is, your reply: “Ipod
server farm.”
