8 Ways to Become a Genius

    Posted on 06 March 2007

Mike Lee posted an interesting entry on how to think like a genius.

The eight strategies are from author Michael Michalko’s “Thinking like a genius: eight strategies used by the supercreative, from Aristotle and Leonardo to Einstein and Edison”:

    1. Look at problems in many different ways, and find new perspectives that no one else has taken (or no one else has publicized!)
    2. Visualize!
    3. Produce! A distinguishing characteristic of genius is productivity.
    4. Make novel combinations. Combine, and recombine, ideas, images, and thoughts into different combinations no matter how incongruent or unusual.
    5. Form relationships; make connections between dissimilar subjects.
    6. Think in opposites.
    7. Think metaphorically.
    8. Prepare yourself for chance.

I’d say I’m 6 of 8 on a normal basis. But I’m no genius. Not too sure how accurate this list is. But then again, the definition of ‘genius’ is subjective right?

    Are you a genius?

Not surprisingly I am all 8.

      I won’t deny it, I’m not a humble man.

    2. Eric Says:

Only the most creative people can think that far outside of the box. Reading that book would just explain how to mimic what being a genius would be like if being a genius can even be conceptualized. Which it can’t.

Interesting point Eric! From that viewpoint, I guess just being yourself isn’t too bad an idea huh?

      sir
my point is that becoming a genius is the cup tea of every one but people lack is the proper use of their sense . in simple words they are ignorant they just see the things they dont bother to go into depth. if every started thinking deeply, in few years the word ‘foolishness’ cease to exist in the dictionary of the world .
your good comments are most wellcome in this regard

So many people start with the assumption that ONLY certain “gifted” people can ever preform such amazing talents with the mind. Let me be clear in saying that virtually all people have enough raw intelligence to solve each and every problem practically speaking. Skill is a factor that no one seems to investigate with ongoing effort. Anytime you learn anything new weather its ride a bike or understand a math problem a new pattern is formed in your brain. Thats why when you truly learn something it sticks. Done your homework on old Albert? The only difference between his brain and ours was not size, weight,no, his brain had more connections or dendrities(these patterns i mentioned above) Absoultely, everyone can increase the dendrites in the brain and sometimes drastically so. Thus skill to bring raw intelligence to surface so it can be measured, considered. Was Albert always considered genius? All I got to say is do the research.

Riley and the above commenter, you both bring very awesome points. I think it is very much about the desire to go deeper than surface level knowledge. I remember when I first started learning to write and record music when I was in high school. Almost 5-8 years of hardcore passionate learning and development in this area has gotten me to a whole other level. I would attribute this to passion, devotion, and a genuine love for the art of writing and recording music.

Number 5 in the above list is pretty important I guess, Riley!
