    Facebook Diaries vs. Justin.tv

    Posted on 06 April 2007

Facebook just launched Facebook Diaries. I posted about it awhile back.

This feature on Facebook will propel the Internet further towards video-rules-the-web status. Because it’s Facebook. Also because video’s the next big thing. Photos, bleh. Text, meh. Videos are the most interesting form of content on the web these days. It’s the most compelling form of content on the web. It’s the one thing that will make the indifferent, i-dont-care individual turn and take a look at what’s moving on the screen.

But I think this Facebook diary thing is not going to be taking off anytime soon. There will be much more viewers than people creating content. We’re all lazy. Video recording equipment is expensive. And hard to learn. But I guess it makes more sense to do it on Facebook rather than MySpace. Since the general IQ level of Facebook users is higher than that of MySpace users.

Little video snippets of diaries are getting a bit old though. Ever heard of Justin.tv? i.e. video diaries on steroids i.e. 24-7 video?

    Your thoughts?

Apple seems to be at the forfront of this. All new Macs are now coming with a webcam right? Maybe this will be the floppy all over again (Apple first, then a few years later everyone follows).

Video is certainly the hot thing this year. If I post anything, and I mean _anything_ video related on my wordpress blog it gets 3 - 4 times the traffic from technorati that the average post gets.
Justin.tv I just find scary - why would anyone want to be that scrutinised?

That’s pretty interesting Steve. It is pretty intriguing how public Justin’s life is. Would you do such a thing if you were given one million dollars? Expose your life to the world?
