Muse to Music is Apple to Tech Industry
Last night I went to one of the best concerts I’ve ever attended in my life (I’ve been to many) at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco. I felt like I was at the Grammies watching these rock stars tear it up.
The artist?
Muse.

From Wikipedia:
Their style is a blend of alternative rock, heavy metal, electronica and classical music. The band is known for its energetic live performances and frontman Matthew Bellamy’s eccentric interests in global conspiracy, extraterrestrial life, theology and the apocalypse…Bellamy’s piano style has been inspired by the works of Romantic pianists such as Sergei Rachmaninoff and Franz Liszt, and has resulted in a fusion of Romantic style with rock in many of Muse’s songs. In particular, many of his compositions contain elements of the first movement of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, such as “Space Dementia”, “Megalomania” and “Ruled by Secrecy”, and of the third movement in the cadenza in “Butterflies and Hurricanes”.
If you haven’t listened to this band yet, I’d suggest their 4th studio album, ‘Absolution’. Watching Muse last night reminded me of the importance of throwing a quality concert. I was 100% in the moment during most of the two hours they played. This is usually unlikely at the concerts I’ve attended in the past. Why do I relate Muse to Apple? Apple is consistently churning out quality, innovative, and sometimes revolutionary products. They’re leading the battle in the tech industry. It’s taken them years and years to get to the top. Muse has put out 5 studio albums. It wasn’t until their 4th album that they began to receive international acclaim. Muse has written some of the most beautiful, energetic, and hands-down quality music I’ve heard in a while.
If you understand my perspective, give Muse a listen. Is Tony a Muse evangelist? You bet. =)

hey tony–
glad to know you liked the muse concert, muse is amazing! i definitely share your sentiments regarding quality music; i was lucky enough to go to the sold out john legend/corinne bailey rae concert at berkeley this past weekend, and they absolutely wowed the audience. i love seeing artists who are so talented musically, and their recordings definitely don’t do justice to their musical talents.

Judy, the John Legend / Mayer, Bailey Rae performance at the Grammies was super emotional and powerful. I was supremely touched.

We seen to have more and more in common, eh? I was a late starter, but was hooked on to Muse ever since I heard “Time Is Running Out”. That album, Absolution, is awesome. Not so sure about the new one yet, but I think I’ll have to let it grow on me.
So what happened with you being broke? :P

Glad to hear you’re a part of the Muse brethren, Sam :) “Time is running out” is a killer song. One of my favorites off of Absolution is “Stockholm Syndrome”. Everytime I listen to that song in my car, I thrash like mad! It just makes you move…
Good question about the broke status, I posted an update a while ago:

Working on LawYours event right now (see sidebar) and cutting back on daily expenses i.e. being cheap. Although those Muse tickets were a bit costly… BUT totally worth it.

WOW! I’m totally lost, absolution is their 4th studio album!? I need to check out the first three.
