My NBA Playoffs Post is Going Nuts!
![]()
I posted last week about my NBA brackets predictions. Since that day, I’ve received 30+ comments on the article. That’s a record.
I figured out last week just why this post was so popular (mostly among people who I don’t even know). If you search in Google, “NBA Brackets 2007″, my blog article is the 5th search result. Pretty interesting huh? I’ve averaged about $4-5 a day from Google ads this week just from all the hits on that article. You should check out the comments sometime, there are some really passionate NBA fans out there!
Bottom line: writing about popular topics early on can get you pretty high ranking on Google search results => increased traffic.
Needless to say, I am thrilled the Mavericks beat the Warriors today. HOWEVER, I must say the Mavs got lucky. If they really want a game seven, they need to:
- Learn to rebound.
- Learn to guard 3 pointers.
- Learn to Dirk (earlier in the game).
I still believe. Go Mavs.

I don’t understand why you like the Mav’s more than the W’s… I’m a Mav’s fan too (supported them last several years), but we’re Bay Area… you’ve got to support local supports man!
We should definitely catch game 6 live somewhere!

Agreed. A flash of mvp-ness came back at the very end last night. I think that double team at the top of the key that they were using in the end of the game worked well also. A little pressure defense was pretty effective.

They need to continue double teaming Baron Davis. Richardson and Davis are major threats. Once they get going => momentum for Warriors => death for Mavs.
What’s also important is that the Mavs need to protect the ball on offense. The Warriors are getting far too many fast break points.
Go Mavs.

Prediction: Warriors, with or without JRich and SJax, run the Mavs right out of the building. Be prepared to see the likes of Josh Powell, Adonal Foyle and Sarunas Jasikevicius playing substantial minutes, because the Warriors would have won the series by the 3rd quarter.
Mark my words. It goes down tomorrow.

I am from Chicago. Sorry that Bulls completely busted up your bracket, but it was pretty exciting here. Considering Detroit and Chicago both swept their opponents, I am very worried about my team. But even though Wallace is probably one of the most overrated players in the league, I think having him on the team will help the Bulls at the Palace.
I was rooting for Mavs last year and will probably will root for them if they go against Phoenix, because thats the last team I want the Bulls to face if they make it to the finals. (no dis intended against the Mavs)

Tony, you and I both know that you’re a casual NBA fan, and an even more casual Mavs fan. For that reason, I think that you (and other casual Mavs fans) are having difficulty understanding from a basketball standpoint why the Mavs are struggling in this series. I can sum it up as succinctly as possible like so:
Commonly held belief:
The Warriors are winning because they happen to match up very well with the Mavericks.
This implies that the Mavericks are every bit as good as their record suggests, and the Warriors are in fact not a good basketball team generally speaking and merely shine against the Mavericks.
Actual explanation that most pundits and sportswriters refuse to admit:
The Mavericks have always played porous individual and team defense against the high-scoring teams (see the Suns), and the Warriors are able to exploit this fact. Furthermore, the Mavs cannot exploit the numerous weaknesses that the Warriors have.
This is the truth (all the numbers support it), and the very fact that the Warriors only won 42 games (30 of which were at home!!!) shows that they are in fact a mediocre team that cannot win against most teams in the NBA. While credit should be given to the Warriors for their exceptional play in this series, an equal amount of blame should be placed on the Mavericks for their inability to play defense and their inability to exploit the Warriors’ weaknesses.
Bottom line: If Dallas loses this series, they only have themselves to blame. For the last 2 seasons, they haven’t taken the time to figure out how to win against teams like the Warriors, and if they can’t win against a mediocre team, they sure as hell don’t deserve a championship. With that said, I am with Emile on this one: I believe the Warriors will pound Dallas in Game 6 (by at least a 10-pt final margin). HOWEVER, if Dallas wins Game 6, I believe they will win Game 7 and the series will be over.

Looks like watching the game in the city at a buddy’s house after class… perhaps we can catch a second round W’s v. Houston game

Is it just me or does Dirk have a really weird style of shooting? I guess if it works…more power to him.

Sports confuse this nerd -_-

Warriors lost game 5 because they stopped playing at the 2 mins mark.
give a lota credit to Dirk for coming up big that last two minute.
if warriors lose the series, they can only blame themselves for
celebrating too early.
I really hope warriors can pull one of the biggest upset in history!

here’s my 2 cents of actual basketball talk…
from the few times i’ve watched the warriors play the mavs, i repeatedly saw dallas setting screens that GS just didn’t know how to guard. in game 5, from one screen the GS forward did not come up to switch or even put a hand up in the Mavs guard’s face who subsequently made a 3. on another pick two plays later, the GS forward realized to switch, but then the GS guard was not able to guard the Mavs forward who subsequently made a shot in the key.

Tony, before the series, it was obvious to me that the Mavs would win. By the middle of game 3, it was obvious I had vastly underestimated the Warriors. Tonight, they are crushing the Mavericks. It is impressive how they have eliminated Nowitski from challenging, and they are fired up. I love the storyline. I can’t say I’m on the bandwagon (as I’m a true Kings fan and can’t love the W’s), but it’s sure fun to watch. I hope you can find some fun in the playoffs over the next month or so even as the Mavs become memories. (As an A’s fan… I really hate that part!)

Tony, sorry about the Mavs…but Emile and I both called it - blowout in Game 6.
It truly sucks to be a Mavs fan the last two years - gut-wrenching. Shocking stuff tonight - especially the two-handed necklace Dirk was wearing the whole night. At least they lost with class and didn’t get anybody ejected.

Tough loss. Congrats GSW, you simply wanted it more. You were hungry. You showed it. You weren’t afraid. You shut Nowitzki down. Stephen Jackson performed. The Mavericks could not rebound worth anything. Big upset.
Go Warriors!
