Geekwhat Community Feature
Posted on 28 May 2007
Upon Fergus’s suggestion, I’ve just implemented a new community feature on Geekwhat. You can choose to join the community by clicking ‘Join Geekwhat’ in the top right corner. By joining, you will be able to comment on posts without having to type in all the necessary information (i.e. name, e-mail, website) EVERY time you comment.

So if you frequently comment on posts here, I suggest you register! I plan to scale up the perks for the people who are registered on the site. One suggestion has been avatars for members.

Okay… the login feature is really cool. Is this a standard wordpress plug in? I’m researching stuff for my consolidated blog and am learning everything I can from you professionals.
One comment, Tony: Can you fill in the Name/E-mail/Website boxes if we’re already logged in? It was a little confusing for me the first time, as the login system knew who I was, but the comment box still asked me to fill in the form (which I just took a gamble and didn’t fill in).
If that’s too much code for the template, then a comment underneath saying “Already Logged In” could appear?
One more thing: I think Google’s adsense is causing “Access Denied” errors in IE7. Is anyone else experiencing this? (Oh, I forgot, you’re a Mac boi!) ;-)
Peace.

Tony, yes there is definitely something buggy going on with the login system. I will look into fixing this by the end of the week. Thanks to everyone who signed up so far.
I basically used a plugin to tweak the login page, then altered code for the user admin interface. Anything you’d like to see added? Avatars would be sweet. =)
Hang in there!
Google ads? hmmm I’m on an XP computer right now andeverythng loads…
