Wii and other Kickass Innovative Products
Posted on 17 July 2007
I played Wii a lot this weekend at a friend’s house. We’re talking 4-8 hours of Wii. Super fun and addicting as you may know. And I got to thinking. About how truly innovative the Wii system really is. And also about companies in other industries that are revolutionizing like Nintendo (and kicking arse):
Nintendo (Wii)

Apple (iPhone)
Google (Gmail, Google Maps…)
Segway

Crocs
These are the companies that are breathing innovation and making their competitors looks bad. Got any others?

Crocs, from concept to 3.5 billion dollar company in 6 years… Very impressive, especially considering it’s ‘old economy’.

Hm… a friend of mine pointed out http://www.microsoft.com/surface; and someone at MS forwarded the youtube parody: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZrr7AZ9nCY.

Quite a different direction than fantasized about in Star Trek.

I just realized the direction everything seems to be going is entertainment-focused — we thought business or charity ruled the world. We were wrong. Peeps just want to have fun!

I agree with you charn, they look like arse but people seem to be going crazy for them. 3.5 billion dollars in market cap does lie!

MS Surface does look pretty sweet, but I have a funny feeling that Apple will either:
1) release a smiliar but more WOW product before them OR
2) outdo Surface with some killer app after MS releases
I think the key with Crocs is that there’s a story to tell there. They are supremely different than the average footwear and it creates conversation, whether it’s critique or praise.

I forgot another one: remember those magnetic hover boards used in Back to the Future? They really exist, but parents groups banned them for being too dangerous!
