Top 5 Internet Tools I Can’t Live Without
Posted on 18 August 2007
With the recent extended Skype outage and the typhoon that hit Taiwan, I’ve started to take notice of the things that I’ve become dependent upon in my daily life. On that note, here are 5 internet tools I would have a hard time living without:
- Facebook As do most people my age, I check this site way more often than I should. Facebook helps keep me updated on my friends’ lives. What can I say? I’m interested.
- Skype If I want to talk to anybody outside of Taiwan (which is more frequent than one would imagine), Skype is the solution for me. The recent outage really reminded me of how damn often I use it. Bank issues in US? Skype. Call friend to wish happy birthday? Skype. Etc.
- Yahoo Finance Gotta check up on those stocks! Scottrade goes hand-in-hand with Y! Finance, because that’s where I actually make the purchases or sells.
- Bloglines Blog feeds aggregation tool. Meaning I have the feeds of all my favorite blogs stored in my account, so it’s a one-stop-source to check up on my friends and fellow bloggers everyday.
- Wordpress I wouldn’t be able to keep geekwhat.com alive without Wordpress. A hell of a tool.

The common trait of these five services is that they all keep me updated on something or allows me to update others (mostly friends and family), with the exception of Yahoo Finance.
I’ve left Google off this list because it’s a given ;). AIM and MSN Messenger are also must-haves for me.
