Japan Trip, Day Three - Shopfest 2007

    Posted on 26 December 2007

Day three here in Tokyo, Japan. Today was all about shopping and exploring fashion. I would say Tokyo, Japan is definitely one of the top fashion areas in the entire world (if not #1). Just come here and walk around and you shall see…

    The places we went today:

    1. Shinjuku district
    2. Harajuku district
    3. Shibashi

The Shinjuku district has a lot of high-end department stores. Everything is damn expensive. Lots of malls and a nice Guitar Center-like store called Rock Inn. Played some guitars there, it was pretty neat. We ate a curry chicken and rice lunch that was delicious (it took us like 2 hours to find the place).

If you want to find some cool indie/hiphop/trendy clothes for a lower price, you must visit the Harajuku district. There is a main strip that has all the fancy brands like Louis Vuitton or Kangol, etc. But on the side is a chain of stores that are more affordable and IMO hip. Keep in mind however that anything and everything in Japan is super expensive. I kid you not. An average price of a CD album here is about $20USD. DVD - $50USD. Hot. Damn. I think the cheapest T-shirt I saw at a store was $20USD. Hats were all around $40USD or higher. As much as I had anticipated shopping in Japan, I didn’t buy much stuff at all… maybe next time…

We ate shabu shabu for dinner (hot pot) in Shibashi with three other friends. It was absolutely delicious (probably because it was super high class), better tasting than any hot pot place I’ve ever eaten in Taipei.

Tomorrow will be my last day in Tokyo, then heading back to Taipei. What a wonderful city and experience, looking forward to returning in 2008. :)
