One Buttock Piano Playing (and more…)

    Posted on 06 July 2008

I was perusing the TED talks website these last few days and came across an awesome, phenomenal, inspiring, and touching video. If you’ve never watched any TED videos, they are basically talks given by some of the most influential and smartest people on our planet (see: Bill Clinton on rebuilding Rwanda, Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page). I highly recommend you check out the video below, and if you like it, venture over to the TED website and check out some other ones that pique your interest.

The below video is a lecture given by Benjamin Zander, a leading interpreter of Mahler and Beethoven and also conductor of the Boston Philharmonic. He mentions such topics as ‘one buttock piano playing’ (when you are truly into the classical piece you are playing and start shifting your arse on the piano bench ;)) and how to truly enjoy classical music. From the TED website:

“…he uses music to help people open their minds and create joyful harmonies that bring out the best in themselves and their colleagues.”

He’s a very humorous, energetic guy and really entertains and educates in this talk (disclaimer: you might just cry after watching this video):

I aspire to be as energetic, insightful, and full of life as Benjamin Zander when I am his age :)
