One of my favorite TV shows is ‘The Big Bang Theory’.  The show is currently in season three and is getting more and more popular with each season.  I think of it as the modern day Star Trek.  The show airs on CBS weekly and basically revolves around the lives of four geek buddies, from Wikipedia:

“Set in Pasadena, California, the show concerns two male Caltech prodigies in their twenties, one an experimental physicist (Leonard) and the other a theoretical physicist (Sheldon), who live across the hall from an attractive blonde waitress with show-biz aspirations (Penny). Leonard and Sheldon’s geekiness and intellect are contrasted with Penny’s social skills and common sense for comedic effect.^[3][4] Two equally geeky friends of theirs, Howard and Rajesh, are also main characters.”

If you are into nerdy stuff like the Internet, computers, or gaming, you will dig this show because it is catered toward us geeks.  As I watched one of the earlier episodes today, I thought to myself… What exactly is it about this show that makes it so successful and interesting? Here are some reasons:

1. The show’s targeted audience is very defined. If you watch the show regularly, I think you’ll agree with me on this point.  You’re only going to appreciate the show if your lifestyle is like those of the characters on the show.
2. Each episode’s script and topics are relevant to geekiness. The show stays true to its roots.  A nerd’s desperation for female attention.  Comic books.  Online gaming.  Bickering over scientific facts.  Etc.
3. Sheldon (one of the four leads).  Sheldon steals the show.  He’s like the Michael Jordan of the Big Bang Theory cast.  His lines and persona on the show are classic and unmatched.  I guess having a defined star on a show is relatively important to the success of the show too.

I guess this post is just an ode to ‘The Big Bang Theory’.  Again, if you consider yourself somewhat of a geek in any respect, give this show a shot.  It’s very entertaining.
