<p>One of my favorite TV shows is <a href="http://www.cbs.com/primetime/big_bang_theory/">&#8216;The Big Bang Theory&#8217;</a>.  The show is currently in season three and is getting more and more popular with each season.  I think of it as the modern day Star Trek.  The show airs on CBS weekly and basically revolves around the lives of four geek buddies, from Wikipedia:</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;Set in <a title="Pasadena, California" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pasadena,_California">Pasadena, California</a>, the show concerns two male <a title="California Institute of Technology" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Institute_of_Technology">Caltech</a> prodigies in their twenties, one an experimental physicist (<a title="Leonard Hofstadter" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_Hofstadter">Leonard</a>) and the other a theoretical physicist (<a title="Sheldon Cooper" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheldon_Cooper">Sheldon</a>), who live across the hall from an attractive blonde waitress with show-biz aspirations (<a title="Penny (The Big Bang Theory character)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penny_%28The_Big_Bang_Theory_character%29">Penny</a>). Leonard and Sheldon&#8217;s <a title="Geek" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geek">geekiness</a> and <a title="Intellect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intellect">intellect</a> are contrasted with Penny&#8217;s <a title="Social skills" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_skills">social skills</a> and <a title="Common sense" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_sense">common sense</a> for comedic effect.<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Big_Bang_Theory#cite_note-usatoday2007-2"><span>[</span>3<span>]</span></a><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Big_Bang_Theory#cite_note-deseretnews2-3"><span>[</span>4<span>]</span></a> Two equally geeky friends of theirs, <a title="Howard Wolowitz" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howard_Wolowitz">Howard</a> and <a title="Rajesh Koothrappali" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rajesh_Koothrappali">Rajesh</a>, are also main characters.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>If you are into nerdy stuff like the Internet, computers, or gaming, you will dig this show because it is catered toward us geeks.  As I watched one of the earlier episodes today, I thought to myself&#8230; <strong>What exactly is it about this show that makes it so successful and interesting?</strong> Here are some reasons:</p>
<ol>
<li><strong>The show&#8217;s targeted audience is very defined.</strong> If you watch the show regularly, I think you&#8217;ll agree with me on this point.  You&#8217;re only going to appreciate the show if your lifestyle is like those of the characters on the show.</li>
<li><strong>Each episode&#8217;s script and topics are relevant to geekiness.</strong> The show stays true to its roots.  A nerd&#8217;s desperation for female attention.  Comic books.  Online gaming.  Bickering over scientific facts.  Etc.</li>
<li><strong>Sheldon</strong> (one of the four leads).  Sheldon steals the show.  He&#8217;s like the Michael Jordan of the Big Bang Theory cast.  His lines and persona on the show are classic and unmatched.  I guess having a defined star on a show is relatively important to the success of the show too.</li>
</ol>
<p>I guess this post is just an ode to &#8216;The Big Bang Theory&#8217;.  Again, if you consider yourself somewhat of a geek in any respect, give this show a shot.  It&#8217;s very entertaining. <img src='http://geekwhat.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
